About the event
Madwewetoon, which translates to “make it sound, play it” in Ojibwe, is a celebration of Indigenous arts and culture in Northern Ontario. The show will feature performances by Tom Wilson TEHOHÀHAKE TRIO (Wilson is a three-time JUNO-award winner), Mohawk rocker and JUNO-nominated folk and soul musician, Logan Staats, Contemporary roots singer-songwriter and 2024 Ontario Folk Music Awards Performing Artist of the Year nominee, Mimi O’Bonsawin, and local artist, Thea May, from Atikameksheng Anishnawbek, who recently signed to Ishkode Records. The show will also include Toronto-based duo, Wampums, serving as event host and opening performer.
Madwewetoon is a collaboration between The Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack Fund (DWF) and Canada’s Music Incubator (CMI). The two organizations previously joined forces to successfully produce Ottawa’s Minoshkite Indigenous Music & Arts Festival in 2024.
